A year at CVCS
Textbook lessons come alive outside the classroom. Here is how a school year at Central Valley unfolds, from the pumpkin patch to the coast.

Fall
Pumpkin patch trip
Preschool through 5th grade at Detering Orchards: a freshly picked apple, a tractor ride, a corn maze and a small, but cute, pumpkin.
Pumpkin Day
The life cycle of a pumpkin, sink-or-float experiments, mini catapults and gumdrop towers.
Church Sabbath and Fall Festival
Students lead the song service, children’s story and sermon at a sponsoring church; that evening the community fills the gym for the Fall Festival.
Monthly chapel themes
A school-wide theme each month, like “Jesus. First. In My Heart.”
Winter
The Christmas program
The Journey to Bethlehem, performed by every class in the CVCS gym, with speaking parts for the youngest shepherds.
The History Fair
An evening of student projects: presidents’ timelines, the states and influential people, with a pizza fundraiser for the 8th graders.
Spring
Field Fun Day
The annual track and field day. When it rains, it becomes Gym Fun Day.
The zoo trip
A reward for the older students who coached the preschoolers in PE twice a week all year.
Campout at the coast
The Science Center and planetarium in Eugene, then camping at Beachside State Park.
Summer
The Linn County Fair
CVCS joins the summer fun with a booth at the fair.
Registration opens
New families register for the coming school year and visit the classrooms.
